Amigurumi Owl Free Pattern

Materials:

This pattern was designed using 5 bulky yarn, a 4.5 mm hook and 12 mm or 16 mm safety eyes.
Yarn in 6 colors; orange (pumpkin), green (stem), white (eyes), brown (body), yellow (beak&feet). You will also need 4 worsted weight yarn in black.
Safety eyes or felt eyes.
Stuffing.
Scissors.
Yarn needle.
Stitch markers.

Abbreviations:

MR- Magic ring
Sc- Single crochet
BO- Bobble stitch (6 loops on hook)
Inc- Increase
Dec- Decrease
Slst- Slip stitch
Ch- Chain
Dc- Double crochet
Hdc- Half double crochet
BLO- Back loop only
FLO- Front loop only

Body

Starting with Brown:
Round 1: 7 sc in a mr (7)
Round 2: inc x 7 (14)
Round 3: (sc, inc) x 7 (21)
Round 4: (2 sc, inc) x 7 (28)
Rounds 5-7 (3 rounds): sc around (28)
Color change to Orange.
Round 8: sc around in BLO only (28)
Round 9-11 (3 rounds): sc around (28)
In the next round, BO are made in Yellow.
Round 12: 11 sc, BO, 4 sc, BO, 11 sc (28)
Round 13: (2 sc, dec) x 7 (21)
Begin stuffing.
Round 14: (sc, dec) x 7 (14)
Finish stuffing.
Tie off and close the hole.
Working into the FLO of round 7 with Brown, attach your yarn with a slst. (sc,hdc) in the next stitch. (hdc,sc) in the next, slst in the next. Repeat the sequence: slst, (sc, hdc), (hdc,sc), slst 6 more times for a total of 42 stitches. Tie off and weave in all ends.

Using orange:
Round 1. 8 sc in MR (8)
Round 2. inc x 8 (16)
Tie off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Using green:
Ch 11. Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, inc in each st down the chain (20)
Your stem should spiral around itself. Tie off and leave a short tail.

Make 2 in white:
Round 1. 8 sc in MR (8)
Round 2. inc x 8 (16)
Tie off and leave a long tail for sewing.
Attach safety eye to the center.
Optional: Melt the tip on the back side of your eye to make it flat.

Wings

Using brown:
In a MR: 3 sc, hdc, ch 2, sc in 2nd ch, working back into the mr, hdc, 3 sc. Tie off and leave a tail for sewing.

Assembly

Pumpkin Top: Tie the stem to the center of the Orange top. Using the long tail from the Orange piece, sew to the top of the owl over rounds 1 and 2.
Eyes: Sew the eyes across rounds 3-7. Make sure they’re centered and touching. You may need to wedge the backside of your safety eyes between stitches so that it’s flat.
Beak: Using yellow, sew a beak between the eyes across rounds 5 and 7.
Wings: Sew the wings on each side of the owl under the FLO stitches of round 7.
Faux Feathers: Using Black #4 yarn, sew multiple v’s across the pumpkin body of the owl in rounds 10 & 12.
Optional Feathers: In round 3, about 1 stitch behind each eye, attach Brown yarn with a slst and ch 2. In the 2nd ch from the hook sc, sc into the 1st slst, tie off and weave in any and all ends.
